With Sonic Sarwate 

Two days ago, MAC Cosmetics invited the fashion bloggers in the city for the preview of their Summer-Spring 16 collection along with a presentation by Sonic Sarwate – A Global Senior Makeup Artist.  The theme of the presentation was ‘All or Nothing’ which celebrates the idea of everything from strong statements to confident minimalism that’s fresh, raw and radiant.

I was so glad to have a li’l chat with the Star of the event- Sonic Sarwate and get some makeup tips and must haves for the season for all you lovely readers. Here’s how it went:

Where are you from? How long have you been in the makeup Industry?

I’m from Mumbai. I have been in the Industry for about 14 years.

What interested you in this industry? Did you study makeup at a school?

I have always loved colors and enjoy playing around with them. I studied makeup at a school in Delhi.

What is makeup to you?

Make-up is self expression with colors.

What’s the SS-16 collection all about? How can one work the new shades?

Summer’s going to be all about Blues, Aquatic shades, Neon, Reds and subtle Bronze. It’s not about wearing a big smoky eye but making a statement in your own way. Go for colors, but add your own personality to it. Makeup is not about transformation, but all about making you look better, adding your own version and not looking like somebody else.

What are your two favorite products from MAC?

‘Ruby Woo’ and ‘All Fired Up’

What has been your most favorite work experience so far?

I enjoy working with Manish (Malhotra). He loves experimenting with colors and so do I.  I had worked with him for his show in 2012 and it was quite experimental. I think that’s one of the most memorable experiences so far.  

What are you must haves for the season?

A Blue Liner, Red Lips, a good Moisturizer and a Concealer that works for your skin.

What is your idea of beach makeup?

Nothing too much. Keep it simple and fresh. And yes! Experiment with colors.

Would you like to give us some skincare tips?

Have a proper skincare routine with pre and post makeup cleansing and use a good sunblock.

Those were some really helpful tips from the man himself. 

Coming to the outfit I wore for the event, it was a tangerine skirt with a white collared shirt that I knotted up at the waist. I wore my black lace-ups  and a metallic backpack to complete the look. 
It was a beautiful event and I’m so glad I met all my fellow bloggers I hadn’t met in a while and few that I met for the first time.

Also tried a shade of orange blush on my cheeks (the last picture) that I can’t stop thinking about!<3

On a beautiful wintry morning, I started out my day listening to this beautiful track while dressing up in this red knit dress, pairing it with a black pleated skirt. Thankfully it was quite cold and I could easily stay out in this outfit for 3-4 hours. Red is so much on my mind, probably b'cuz Valentine's day is around the corner. Wearing a pair of earrings after a very long time and this pair of heels that I rarely take out for obvious reasons. Wish I could share more of my thoughts but running out of time. It’s going to be another busy weekend for me trying to finish all the unfinished tasks and embark on new ideas and projects. Before I head out, I thought I would share some random things and thoughts that always help and keep me motivated:

-Dry shampoo- A bad hair day can instantly turn into a good hair day- a dry shampoo is a wonder product. Something you can always rely on!

-Getting rid of chipped nail polish- makes you feel so much better. I always keep a nail- polish remover or wipes in my handbag.

-When things seem boring try a new lipstick. Or mix up different shades and create your own shade.

-When feeling dull and not in a mood to get ready, please go against yourself and get ready even better than you usually do! Thank me later!

-Listen to great music while getting ready.

-Get inspired! Like Grace Coddington said- “ Always keep your eyes open. Keep watching. Because whatever you see can inspire you”

-If things don’t work, take a pause and try a different approach.

-Never compromise on your standards, no matter what price you have to pay for it.

-Do not take up things that you’re sure you don’t enjoy doing.  Learn to say “No”.

-Wear some extra perfume!

-Experiment with clothes, colors and hairstyles (you'll see me experimenting a bit in the next few posts)!

-Enjoy every season!

-And lastly- Follow your heart! Let it take you along wherever it wants to go. It will always surprise you!

So who are you? Tell us something about yourself. 

A Bachelor in Biotechnology who worked in the corporate sector a couple of years, did a fashion course from NIFT while working and quit the job only to take up fashion blogging as a full time profession. I run a blog called ‘I Dress for the Applause’. Fashion has always been my biggest area of interest. I’m always on a look out for something new and get naturally drawn towards creativity. Conceptualizing my shoots, day dreaming, skimming through fashion magazines and exploring music is what I love doing the most. A complete lover of everything vintage.

Where are you from?

I was born in Hyderabad, partly brought up in Arabia.

What is your star sign?

I’m a Gemini

What typical traits do you have from your star sign?

Versatile, Ambitious, Inquisitive, Imaginative and Free-Spirited

If you could meet anyone in the world dead or alive who would it be?

A lot of people actually. I would want to meet the Olsen Twins and understand how they keep their personal style so interesting and see if we have anything in common since I share my birthday with them. I would also love to meet Victoria Beckham and get an understanding of the business of fashion, and Daria Werbowy, Kate Moss, Lakshmi Menon (who happen to be my favorite models) and get some lessons on modelling from them.

Favorite place to unwind in the city?

Any place that serves yummy garlic prawns, grilled salmon and mocktails with a nice view of the city and great music. Or even a terrace of a building with a great company.

 Instagram, Shopping List – so I don't miss out on a single thing and Coin toss for when I’m stuck on taking a decision (Black or blue? You get it!).

VANILLA TWILIGHT

I’ve been away from my blog for a li’l longer than I had planned. Blame the Mercury retrograde in my sunsign - most of my work got delayed. However, I’m not guilty about it since a break was really needed.  I’m loving the fact that the weather is being quite compatible with my wardrobe these days. Before it goes unpredictable again, I’m trying to wear all the knits and jackets so I can happily step into the summer phase without any regrets of not using all the wintry stuff I have in my closet.

I’m wearing one of my favorite winter tops with a pair of denim shorts. I threw on a reindeer necklace to glam up the look. Few days ago I had shared my obsession for orange and coral tones and this new satchel is only an extension of it. The look is very casual and fun. Something I would wear to a movie or when going to simply hang out with friends. 

Today I’m totally craving Ohris' Awful- awful and I hope I can go grab a big tub of it topped with extra nuts. Heading out now!
